As soon as we start having sunny and warm days again, I immediately tell myself that picnic season has begun! I absolutely love everything about the concept of picnics: eating outside in the sun, sharing a friendly, simple and informal meal with friends, family or lovers, enjoying the beauty of nature around us, taking our time and learning to slow down and reconnect with the present moment during a meal. Even though summer is already well underway, we have many beautiful warm days to come and still have the chance to have 1 million (yes, that many) picnics before the end of the summer season. So let’s make the most of it and picnic as much as possible! I’m sharing with you a little simplified guide (since we don’t want to complicate our lives, right?) to make your picnics a success and not forget anything.
Accessories to take away
Here I speak to you from personal experience, NEVER forget your sunscreen on a picnic because you will spend hours under the sun getting burned otherwise. This is also how I got the worst sunburn of my life. I kept a mark on my back for 1 year!
If you have a camera or you can always use your cell phone, take some pictures to immortalize this moment under the sun with those around you. I find that we often forget to take pictures when we are with the people we love, yet they are beautiful memories to have.
Water bottle
So important! We can quickly become dehydrated or get sunstroke with the hot temperature and the sun, we want to avoid that.
Dishes, trays and utensils
Depending on what food you bring, you can bring plates (sandwiches, wraps), bowls (salads, dips) or platters (cheeses, bread, cold cuts, raw vegetables, fruits, nuts). Don’t forget your utensils!
Where to picnic?
I have a weakness for picnics on the water’s edge, for the view and the cool breeze (shivering as I am, I always bring my blanket!).
In a park or in a pond
The advantage of this option is that you don’t have to go super far to have a picnic. You can simply go to the park or the pool closest to your home.
At the top of a mountain
Go hiking and arrive at the summit, settle down and eat a good meal with a sublime landscape as far as the eye can see. A great way to combine physical activity and picnic.
On the beach
There is a romantic atmosphere to beach picnics, perfect for couples! Plus, you can watch absolutely stunning sunsets, it’s a great way to end an outdoor meal.
In your own class
We don’t complicate things and we picnic directly in our yard. The experience is really pleasant, we enjoy the good weather while avoiding any travel. In addition, if we forgot something, no problem! It is possible to create a real picnic atmosphere at home. Just the fact of eating on a blanket on the lawn instead of on the outdoor table, it changes the routine! Try it!
